Material Selection Guide for Suspended Ceiling Systems
Suspended ceiling selection should reflect ceiling type, room conditions, service loads, fire requirements and the supporting structure.
Gypsum board, lay-in grid, clip-in metal and acoustic ceilings use different suspension components and module rules. Their material lists cannot be exchanged without redesign.
Hanger spacing, main and cross profiles, perimeter trims, fixings and access requirements should be calculated from the selected system and room geometry.
The ceiling must not carry unapproved service loads. Current manufacturer details and structural requirements should guide suspension and fixing decisions.
Key points
Select the ceiling system before calculating quantities.
Measure room geometry and identify service zones.
Include hangers, profiles, trims, fixings and waste.
Verify allowable spans and loads from current documents.
